Everybody really does love Weaving!
It was a beautiful spring morning. We transported looms, posters, woven items and
ourselves down to our spot, just in front of the Kimmel Center for the all-day-long
PIFA Street Fair. The crowds came by in a steady stream all day long. I was amazed
and gratified to see how many people really love to weave. Reluctant at first, most
people could be persuaded to try their hand at weaving. Their smiles appeared as they
worked on the sturdy dependable Dorset loom I warped with lovely chenille yarn.
Hour by hour the scarf grew. Yes, the warp shows that many different hands applied
varied pressures with the beater, but I think that makes it all the more meaningful.
We finished the warp by 4:00, then continued the demonstration with a flip loom.
Again using chenille yarn, which was a real crowd pleaser, people sampled weaving.
My tireless helpers arrived and departed, and were a welcome relief. As the event was
closing, people were still begging to sample weave. The photos below tell it all, everybody loves weaving!
Many, many thanks to Kathy Selbst, Charlotte Chatfield, Maryann Laverty and Ginny
Green for working tirelessly with me to make this possible.
